Pity Neil isn't here yet. He'd love it. If that were a half-sized can of Pepsi Light (or Tab), it could be the front room of my childhood home.
And by "home" I don't mean "asylum."
I don't know why, but I feel there's just something terribly refreshing about this piece.
It's the juxtaposition of the florid, old fashioned upholstery fabric and the sleek, modern-looking bottle. Quite the study in contrasts.
It's obviously a commentary on commercialism as it infects Middle America. Duh!
The juxtaposition of the container against the old fashioned floral cushions makes me want to be young and have fun, to reject the old ways and make this choice of a new generation, to catch the spirit. And the isolation of the sleek bottle against the chaotic background makes one realize, without question, that truly, nothing else is a Pepsi. Nothing.
If you look at the smaller version it looks like fireworks exploding all around the Pepsi. On the full-size version it's just a bottle on tacky furniture.
